NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York state is helping NYCHA residents who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by paying their past-due rent, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday.

The state is allocating $35 million to NYCHA, which will then be used to pay up to 12 months of rent for some tenants. The unpaid rent must have been accumulated between March 2020 and May 11, 2023, for NYCHA residents to qualify.

“We’re continuing to support vulnerable New Yorkers who were hit hard by the pandemic and helping to ensure families remain in their homes,” Hochul said in a statement.

The state has already given NYCHA around $159 million to help over 27,000 households through its Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

No one is helping the working class. Kathy Hochul just wants city black and brown poor votes to stay in power.
