USDA recalls meat for New York and New Jersey schools

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The USDA has recalled more than 11 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat, some of which was sent to tri-state area schools.

The administration recalled BrucePac meat produced between May 31 to Oct. 8 due to listeria concerns. Meat from the company has been distributed nationwide to restaurants, schools, and stores.

Health officials issued a list of schools impacted by the recall on Friday. Anyone with the meat was advised to throw it away immediately or return it to the place of purchase.

Listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes before diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
