LI man sentenced after stabbing wife to death in front of their teenage son

LINDENHURST, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Long Island man will spend decades behind bars for stabbing his wife to death in front of their teenage son earlier this year, authorities said.

Ryszard Murawski, 44, of Lindenhurst, was sentenced to 22 years on Thursday after pleading guilty to murder last month, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Murawski attacked his wife , Wioleta Murawski, with a large serrated knife in the backyard of the family home at around 8:30 pm. on Jan. 3, 2024, prosecutors said. The couple’s 15-year-old son saw his dad stabbing his mom after coming home from a friend’s house.

“He heard his mother screaming for help in the backyard,” prosecutors said.

The teen jumped on his dad until his mom broke free. Authorities said he then called 911 and told the operator his dad stabbed his mother and fled in a black GMC pick-up truck.

Officers tracked down the husband in the truck and he led police on a 7-mile chase before crashing into the side of a building, officials said.

Wioleta Murawski was able to make it across the street before collapsing. She was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. Her death was captured on home surveillance cameras, prosecutors said.

“No one should ever have to experience the pain and loss that comes from such senseless acts,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.
