Caregivers of ID/RD wavier participants – SC Medicaid is proposing new coaching services for behavioral support!

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) will be submitting an amendment to 1915(c) home and community-based waiver amendment to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The amendment adds caregiver coaching service to the Intellectual Disability/Related Disabilities (ID/RD) waiver program. This new service will provide training and support to family caregivers of waiver participants with an assessed need for behavior supports. Implementation is subject to approval by CMS with an implementation target date on or after October 1, 2024.

SCDHHS is offering two public webinars to learn more, including requirements, components of services and service limitations. The same information will be covered on each webinar. To register, click the links below:

Parents/caregivers of children on Medically Complex Children (MCC) waiver – proposed changes to add qualified family members as paid caregivers!

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) is proposing changes to the Medically Complex Children (MCC) waiver program to add attendant care as a self-directed service. This would allow qualifying family members, including parents of minor children, of enrolled MCC waiver participates to be the attendant/paid caregiver of the service. MCC attendant care is intended to provide "extraordinary" direct care services to children birth through 20-years-old who need hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) that do not fit the current age-appropriate definition. SCDHHS intends to submit these proposed changes for approval to Centers for Medicaid Services (CMS) around October 1, 2024.
