PLAINFIELD, NJ — On Tuesday, the City of Plainfield held an opening ceremony in the Anne Louise Davis room of the Plainfield Public Library for a photo exhibition showing its Fourth of July Parade through the years. The city will host its 100th Fourth of July Parade on Thursday.

"As I look on the walls, they tell you a lot about our history," said Mayor Adrian Mapp, who thanked the Plainfield Public Library for dedicating resources to make this possible. "I hope that a lot of our residents will come through and view this exhibit and they may be able to identify themselves in some of the photos. We are going to try to spread the word as much as we can so that people come and enjoy this."

Mayor Mapp announced that the Grand Marshall of this year's parade will be legendary educator and social justice advocate James Plummer.

"History is important, and as a Division of Parks and Recreation, we try to make sure that people understand that we document civic life. Our town is changing. This was once a small town of 30,000 people," said Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Veronica Taylor. "The landscape is changing, and we have to document it."

Taylor said that she started the process for this exhibition back in 2019 with Sarah Hull, the Head of Local History, Genealogy & Special Collections at the Library.

The exhibition will be open for the month of July during hours when the Plainfield Public Library is open. Library summer hours are as follows:
