    Fire Breaks Out at Vacant Property on Plainfield's East End

    PLAINFIELD, NJ — At around 2:12am, the Plainfield Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned building located at 401 East Third Street, between Richmond Street and Roosevelt Avenue. No injuries have been reported.

    According to the Plainfield Fire Department, the fire escalated to a 3-alarm blaze, which requred assistance from multiple mutual aid companies. While the building was vacant and boarded up, the Fire Department observed multiple squatters exiting the building as the fire progressed.

    With the fire now under control, its cause is under investigation. The Fire Department is completing what it calls a "search and overhaul" to ensure the safety of the building and to assess future hazards.

    Residents is the area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the fire as emergency operations continue today.
