Lunch & Learn Spotlights the Tradition of Town Canes
Franklin County Visitors Bureau is pleased to host Pam Anderson for a special Lunch & Learn: Town Canes of Chambersburg and Waynesboro at the Franklin County Visitors Bureau on Tuesday, October 8, 11:30 AM to 1 PM. Anderson is a Certified Genealogist, researcher, lecturer, and perpetual student of history. She recently delved into the tradition of town canes, which are given to the “oldest resident” of a community. Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz is making multiple campaign stops in central Pa. with Senator John Fetterman this week, according to a Tuesday night announcement. The Minnesota Governor’s bus tour will start in Dauphin County on Wednesday, Oct. 2 before stopping in York and Reading. The campaign events come just one day after Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate, hosted in New York.

Middletown police have charged two alleged porch pirates with stealing a new iPhone off a front porch less than 15 minutes after it was delivered Thursday. The home in the 170 block of Bateman Drive was one of multiple locations where Apple electronic products were scheduled to be delivered in Middletown Thursday, and police were waiting and watching, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Gettysburg College to host first-ever night football game Oct. 4
Gettysburg College will host its first-ever home football night game against McDaniel College on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Thanks to the generous support of 25 College alumni and families, four towers of LED lights were lifted into the sky surrounding the track around Shirk Field this past summer, creating the opportunity for the first night events in the almost 60-year history of the venue.

DOL Making it Harder to Hire Independent Contractors
Hiring independent contractors has long been a cost-saving strategy for businesses, as contractors aren’t protected by many federal and state labor laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which sets minimum wage and overtime standards.
