Adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s ‘Nickel Boys’ to open New York Film Festival this fall
“Nickel Boys,” an adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, will open the 62nd New York Film Festival in September, organizers said Monday. Filmmaker RaMell Ross directed the drama based on the 2019 novel about two Black teenagers in an abusive reform school in Florida in Jim Crow-era Florida. Whitehead used the real Dozier School for Boys, and its victims, as a model. The cast includes Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an Assault that occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 7:48 pm in Merrick. According to Detectives, 911 received a call for a disturbance at Planet Fitness, located at 1630 Merrick Road. Upon officer’s arrival, suspect Getho Brevette, 27, of 52 Park Avenue, fled the scene in his 2015 Hyundai heading westbound on Merrick Road. Shortly after, the defendant was involved in an auto accident and left the scene, but later returned to Planet Fitness.
