Plantation, FL - Police arrested a 35-year-old woman after her dog was found neglected and later euthanized after the suspect attempted to shift blame to a fictional life partner named "Jasmine Grant."

Plantation police arrested Cheeyana Vaneus on Thursday for aggravated animal cruelty resulting in the death of a dog named Ruby.

According to authorities, Vaneus neglected Ruby to the point where the dog had to be euthanized.

An investigation into Vaneus began in April after a report of an abandoned dog at her residence.

Animal control officers found Ruby in the garage, unable to move or stand.

The dog had visible injuries and lacked access to food and water.

Vaneus' mother initially surrendered the dog, claiming it belonged to Cheeyana and had been injured days prior.

Despite claims of a scheduled veterinary appointment, no such appointment existed.

Vaneus then fabricated a story about a partner named "Jasmine Grant" who supposedly owned the dog.

Vaneus repeatedly failed to meet with animal control or retrieve Ruby.

Veterinarians ultimately determined Ruby's injuries were several weeks old and required euthanasia due to suffering and a poor prognosis.

A search for "Jasmine Grant" revealed no matching individuals, leading police to believe Vaneus invented the character to avoid responsibility.

Vaneus is currently jailed on a $20,000 bond and faces animal cruelty charges
