KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person’s day took an odd turn — no pun intended — when a closed bridge re-routed a Missouri man to a $1 million fortune.

“The bridge was out so I had to go the other way,” the winner said.

The blocked-off road forced the man to detour, leading him straight to a Trex Mart 2 in Platte City. This roadside gas station, located at 15990 State Route 92, would soon change his life after choosing to buy a Lotto ticket for the June 15 drawing.

The next day, as he made himself dinner, the man decided to check his numbers. Soon he realized this was no normal ticket.

“I saw the 35 at the end and then I saw the 33 and I thought, ‘Oh boy, we’re on to something!’” he said.

All six winning numbers were a perfect match — 3, 9, 15, 27, 33 and 35 — earning him, and another winner also holding a winning ticket, an equal split of a $2 million jackpot prize.

According to the Missouri Lottery, the other winning ticket came from Price Chopper at 1305 North 7 Highway in Blue Springs.

“It was just unbelievable!” he said. “I never would have gone in there if that bridge wasn’t closed.”

Drawings for the Lotto are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. The estimated jackpot for the upcoming Lotto jackpot is about $1.4 million.
