KOTA Cares: Black Hills Raptor Center’s mission to conserve and protect birds of prey
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Through education, rehabilitation and research, the Black Hills Raptor Center is working to conserve and protect birds of prey, including the 12 different raptors currently housed at their home base. Those raptors include various species of owls, falcons, and hawks. They work with species found in North and South Dakota, eastern Wyoming, and northwestern Nebraska, and hold more than 120 educational programs at all locations.

“Sturgis East” For A Day
Every year at this time Mitchell earns the nickname “Sturgis East” by hosting its popular “Pre-Sturgis” party for travelers heading to the annual rally. Brian Klock of Klockwerks says it began 18 years ago at his Mitchell business location. “This is the seventh year that the city has let us come down and enjoy all of Main Street”, said Klock. “So lucky number seven.”
Two Governors Finish Top Five at Junior Championship
Both Pierre Governors Nick Bothun and Sawyer Sonnenschein would finish inside the top five of the Junior Championship at the Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion. Overall, it was a three day event with a total of 54 holes played. Bothun would finish in fourth place shooting a 71, 76 and 72 to finish three over par for the tournament. Sonnenschein would finish in fifth, just two shots behind Bothun at five over par. Lincoln Houska would finish in 21st place and Jack Bartlett at 34th with totals of 235 and 244 over the three days. Luke Olson had shot a 76 on day one and 77 on day two, but had to withdraw after a club head broke off and sliced his finger requiring stiches.
