The Madison 14U VFW baseball teams season came to an end on Sunday, with a runner up finish in the Class A State VFW Tournament. Madison opened the tournament on Friday with a 12-2 win over Milbank .Henry Veenhof allowed just 2 unearned runs on 4 hits while striking out 13 batters in the opening win for Madison. Payton Wold had 2 hits and scored twice, while Oakley Mees drove in 3 runs.
Night Out event makes return to Volga
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office wants to say thank you to county residents on Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. during their National Night Out celebration in Volga. “We want to give back to the community,” Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Kriese said. “They are so supportive of us through the whole year, so this is kind of our way of giving back and saying thanks for all your support through the year. Motorcyclist suffers fatal injuries in Lincoln County crash
LENNOX, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 60-year-old man riding a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries after colliding with a pickup truck near Lennox on Tuesday. Preliminary crash information indicates that around 3:30 p.m. on July 30, the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on US 18 in Lincoln County, five miles south of Lennox.
Vermillion and Winner Suffer Storm Damage
(Vermillion/Winner, SD) — Cleanup continues in Vermilion and Winner after a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area Monday night delivering strong winds and golf ball sized hail. In Winner, the storm tossed two-by-fours into a building, damaged the screen at a drive-in theater and tore part of the roof off of the Tripp County Veterans Memorial. Some trees were uprooted in Vermillion and the town’s historic district was also damaged.
