Waterloo senior football standout Trevor Firari has found his collegiate home. Also a standout in wrestling and baseball, Firari pledged his commitment to the Pioneers of UW-Platteville with a post on Twitter/X on December 19, 2023. He made things official by signing his National Letter of Intent on Wendesday, Feb. 21 at Waterloo High School.

“I love the atmosphere they have as an entire football team,” Firari said. “It’s a beautiful campus with really nice football facilities. It’s always been a dream to go play college football, no matter the division. It takes a lot of work, sweat and tears.”

Firari took a very mature approach to his recruitment. He focused on programs that offered his intended major, construction management, and saw football as an avenue to achieve his degree. Other programs like UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stout, and a handful of other local schools were in the running for securing his services. UW-Platteville stood out from the pack, offering both his intended major and a football program on the rise.

The Pioneers should be thankful for that program, because it helped them land a quality player in Firari. He was the Eastern Suburban Conference’s Co-Player of the year as a senior, earning first team all-conference honors as a running back and second team as a linebacker for Waterloo. He was also a first-team selection as a sophomore before missing large swaths of his junior season with an injury.

He’ll focus on the defensive side of the ball at UW-Platteville, slotting in as a Sam or Mike linebacker. It’s a fitting spot for Firari, who wrapped up 75 total tackles, forced and recovered two fumbles, and picked off two passes in his Waterloo prep career.

Joining Firari on the defensive ball for the Pioneers is another familiar name from Waterloo, Benny Marshall. The fellow class of 2024 Pirate signed his National Letter of Intent alongside Firari at that Wednesday signing. Marshall heads to Platteville as a safety, meaning they could see the field together once again at the collegiate level.

“It’s pretty awesome to be able to play with a guy I’ve played four years of high school football with,” Firari said of Marshall. “We’ve really grown together and grown a bond. Playing with him at the next level and continuing our friendship is really special to me.”

On his list of thank you’s, Firari was first to thank God. He also showed his appreciation for his family and the coaches in his life that spent their time on helping him grow. In his opinion, they gave him the tools to succeed at Waterloo and prepare him for the next level.
