DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Mark Cornish of Davenport has been selected as the recipient for the 2023 Civil Works Planning Excellence Award. According to a media release, Cornish was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington, D.C., for the award for his work on the Lock and Dam 22 Fish Passage project.

State of emergency: What to know in the storm’s aftermath
Parts of Kewanee look like a war zone Tuesday morning. A storm with intense high winds and rain brought down trees and power lines throughout the city. It was unclear if the storm was a tornado, but City Manager Gary Bradley said the Henry County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) reported that wind speeds reached 112 mph.

The Henry County Office of Emergency Management has declared a local state of emergency for Kewanee and Wethersfield Townships. Residents in these areas who are uninsured or underinsured and do not have the physical ability to clear downed trees from their property, may request assistance from the Henry County Office of Emergency Management. The Henry County OEM has partnered with local non-profit to provide tree cutting services for qualifying residents. “This is an offer for physical assistance, and not a financial benefit.”

North Iowa Woman Gets Up to 10 Years in Prison Stealing Over $100K from Employer
A north Iowa woman could serve up to a decade in prison for stealing more than $100,000 from her employer. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Malorie Hallock of Mason City last November after she was accused of embezzling the money while she worked at Studio 65 in Clear Lake, stealing $123,000 in business deposits between January and October of 2023. The criminal complaint says Hallock deposited the money into her own account.
Man Sentenced To Life in Prison For Killing Dubuque Woman
A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole Monday for killing a Dubuque woman in 2021. 25 year old Romell Enoch received the mandatory sentence during a hearing in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after previously being found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 20 year old Kylie Duster of Dubuque. A jury reached its guilty verdict on May 6 after four hours of deliberation following three days of testimony. Police found Duster dead in her Dubuque home on July 28, 2021, after she had not been seen for multiple days. She was found in her bedroom closet with a piece of white fabric in her mouth and injuries to her face and neck.
