OBITUARY: Jean Williams Vick

Jean Williams Vick passed away on July 11, 2024 at her home in Whites Creek, Tennessee after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Dickson, Tennessee on June 2, 1951 and moved with her family to Nashville shortly thereafter.

In Nashville Jean attended Maplewood High School during which time she co-founded the all-girls band The Feminine Complex. She earned the nickname “Cool Jean on the Bass” as she played the bass guitar, sang, and authored several songs on their debut album Livin’ Lovin’ at Athena Records.

After her brief music career, Jean was employed at J.C. Bradford & Co. where she rose to the position of Investment Limited Partner. Upon leaving Bradford, Jean attended and graduated from Asbury College (now University) in Wilmore, Kentucky where she earned a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Bible and Theology.

Following college Jean felt a call to serve at Vanderbilt University Medical Hospital as a Guest Services representative where she shared her faith in God and love for people. She was of the Christian faith and a member of the West Nashville Cumberland Presbyterian Church at her passing.

Jean was preceded in death by parents Henry and Ella Mai Williams, spouse Daniel McKinney and sister Marsha Williams.

Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 29 years Joe R. Vick, daughter Nicole (Raymond) Crump, step-children; Joey (Jamie) Donoho, Lisa (David) Smith, Angie (Tommy) Ham, Marsha (Greg) Gilbert, and Michael (Kylie) Vick, a sister Janice Chandler, grandsons; Nicholas and Joseph Crump, 11 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, a nephew, cousins, her teacup poodle Ellie, and many friends.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels-Nashville and Alive Hospice for the compassionate care provided Jean at the end of her illness.

Visitation with family will be on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 3:00 until the time of service at 6:00 PM at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, TN. conducted by Jean’s pastor Dr. Rev. Tommy Clark.

Jean’s favorite color was red and the family invites everyone to wear something red to the visitation.

A private burial will follow at Harpeth Hills. Pallbearers are Raymond Crump, Nicholas Crump, David Smith, Tommy Ham, Greg Gilbert, and Matthew Chance.
