Court activity ongoing in former teacher’s suit against Franklin district
Marcy Brown, a former teacher at Franklin High School, has filed a lawsuit against the Franklin School District and three administrators, alleging age discrimination, a hostile work environment, and retaliation. In connection with this, she plans to reissue subpoenas to nine current and former district employees and students after an initial attempt was challenged by the district’s legal team. The district argued the subpoenas caused an undue burden due to being improperly served and illegible. Brown, through her attorney, responded that the subpoenas were intended as notice and would be reissued according to federal rules. The lawsuit, which has seen multiple delays in fact discovery, includes allegations that previous Title IX complaints against Brown were unfounded, though the district contends there were findings of policy violations. Brown had previously sued the district in 2012 and 2014 for gender discrimination, which were settled without the district admitting fault.
