State public health officials announce season’s first EEE-positive mosquito samples
Boston — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) today announced that Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Massachusetts for the first time this year. The presence of EEE was confirmed in mosquito samples collected on June 30 in the town of Carver in Plymouth County. No human or animal cases of EEE have been detected so far this year.

A man in Plymouth County indicted and charged with child rape, has been released on bail. In late May, a Plymouth County grand jury returned indictments charging 26-year-old Cory B. Alvarez with one count each of Aggravated Rape of a Child with 10 Year Age Difference and Rape of a Child by Force. In March, Alvarez was found dangerous, and he currently remains held without bail.

The National Weather Service issued an updated tornado warning at 11:32 p.m. on Wednesday in effect until Thursday at midnight for Bristol and Plymouth counties.
