Rockland Public Library seeks submissions for Tiny Art Show
ROCKLAND — Rockland Public Library invites local community members to share their artistic talents. The Library is seeking submissions for a Tiny Art Show. Artists ages 14 years and older can pick up a tiny art kit starting Monday, Sept. 9 through Thursday, Sept. 25 (or while supplies last). Participants can choose a painting kit that includes a 3″x3″ canvas and easel, acrylic paints, and brushes or sculpture kit with air-dry clay, brushes, and acrylic paints. Adding to the provided supplies is encouraged as long as everything fits on the tiny canvas and the sculpture doesn’t get too big.

Wanted man jumps from Auburn roof trying to escape police
AUBURN, Maine — A wanted fugitive was arrested in Auburn Wednesday after trying to make a dramatic escape from police. Collision between pickup truck, lawn mower causes street detours, call to reconstructionist
THOMASTON — Traffic along Route 1 through Thomaston has been diverted down side streets this afternoon while Thomaston Police wait for a crash reconstructionist to arrive. Whenever a motor vehicle incident results in a serious injury, law enforcement agents are required to inform a State reconstructionist of that incident. Swormstedt is First Woman to Win Pemaquid Beach Triathlon
A former NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse champion outpaced more than one hundred other competitors to win the Pemaquid Beach Triathlon during pleasant summer weather on Sunday, Aug. 25 in Bristol. Sidney Swormstedt of Laconia, NH became the first female to win the overall race championship. Her blazing time of 1:18:48 beat the closest competitor by more than two minutes. Swormstedt was a member of the 2016 women’s lacrosse team at the University of North Carolina that won the national championship during her freshman season.

Bidding for Great Art for Great Reads Now Live
The Great Art for Great Reads art show is now live on Bidding Owl. Bidding begins Friday, Aug. 30 and will be live until 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. Fifty-six artists have 106 works of art on display in this year’s show. The works can be viewed at the library, at 958 Main St. in Waldoboro, during operating hours. An opening reception for the show will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Aug. 30, coinciding with Artwalk Waldoboro.

Seventy golfers take part in Mars Hill Golf Tournament
MARS HILL, Maine — The 22nd Mars Hill Golf Tournament was held on August 10–11 with about 70 players enjoying the beautiful summer weather. Many of the players were from the area and from other golf clubs in Maine. However, we did have some players from far away such as West Virginia. They said that it took them 13 hours to drive to Mars Hill. The player had never been to Maine and was asked what he liked about the area. He said everything and he is going to bring his wife back to see the beauty of the area.
