    Plymouth Quiz Bowl Team advances

    2024-05-08

The quiz bowl team from Plymouth Middle School is set to compete in a 160-team national competition. The National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ Middle School National Championship Tournament will be underway Friday, May 10 in Rosemont, Illinois.

Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students. Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports and popular culture. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Participation in quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.

This will be Plymouth’s first time attending the national tournament.

Plymouth may face familiar foes in Rosemont, as middle schoolers from Providence, St. Louis Park and Wayzata Central will also be attending.

The Plymouth Middle School team will consist of Liddell Evans, Nolan Glad, Nolan Jacobsen and Noah Luithly. The team will be coached by Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL-Golden Valley).

Freiberg boasted about the team’s success on social media when they qualified for the national competition at a Jan. 27 tournament in Burnsville: “I’m really proud of the Plymouth Middle School Quiz Bowl team! They went 5-2 at the tournament in Burnsville today, won a playoff game, and qualified for nationals!”

Tournament results will be updated throughout the three days of competition at naqt.com/go/stats/14700. People can also follow #msnct on X.
