Driver detained after leading chase through Des Moines; 2 police officers injured
PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — A driver is in custody after leading law enforcement on a chase through Des Moines that left two police officers injured. Pleasant Hill police say the chase started around 10:30 a.m. near Northeast 56th Street and East University Avenue when a Pleasant Hill officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver took off, with the pursuit ending near Easton Boulevard and East 38th Court.
New Century Farmer Conference returns to Des Moines July 21-25
The annual New Century Farmer Conference will be held in Des Moines on July 21-25. The event invites select Future Farmers of America alumni between the ages of 18 and 24 to share information about the business operations of farming. “The New Century Farmer Conference provides a pathway for FFA alumni to advance their leadership, personal and career skills,” Allie Ellis, associate director of the National FFA Alumni and Supporters, said in a prepared statement. Carroll Man Charged With OWI After Striking Parked Car, Tree Thursday Morning
A Carroll man has been arrested on operating while intoxicated charges after crashing into a parked vehicle and a tree during the early morning hours last Thursday. According to the Carroll Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Carroll and 14th Streets at approximately 12:56 a.m. Authorities say 35-year-old Colby Michael Boell was traveling northbound on Carroll Street in a 2014 Chrysler 200 and veered into the southbound lane, striking a legally parked 1996 Chevrolet K1500. The Boell vehicle then overcorrected after the impact and hit a tree in a yard northeast of the intersection. Boell was taken into custody on the serious misdemeanor charge and transported to the Carroll County jail for processing. The Boell vehicle sustained totaling damage. Officials note the car struck the tree with such force as to snap the trunk off at the base.

Following an opening round bye, the Boone Little league All Stars opened play Sunday representing the State of Iowa in the 2024 Little League Central Region Intermediate Baseball Tournament.
