Broadband council to meet with new Frontier management
Melissa O’Brien of the Roane County Broadband Enhancement Council met with the Pocahontas County Broadband Council at its February 22 meeting. O’Brien said she has developed contacts with some of the new management at Frontier Communications, and they are eager to change Frontier’s bad reputation. She said those managers as well as Frontier engineers are willing to come to a Broadband Council meeting, but would probably need more than an hour to talk with the council and respond to questions and concerns.
MTC holds short meeting, hires code enforcement officer
It was a quick evening at Monday night’s Marlinton Town Council meeting with a short agenda and limited discussions. The last item on the agenda took up the most time, beginning with an executive session to discuss the personnel committee’s recommendation for hiring a code enforcement officer/ building inspector.

COVID impedes postseason effort for third straight year
We will never know for sure just how far the last three Pocahontas County High School girls basketball teams might have advanced in the postseason if the COVID pandemic had never happened. Commission approves amended towing ordinance
Pocahontas County Commission completed the second reading and then approved the Amended Towing Ordinance at its February 15 meeting. This amends the current towing ordinance to allow the Fire/EMS Incident Commander at a scene to call 911 dispatch for emergency towing of a vehicle. Towing companies are dispatched according to a rotation.
Caesar Mountain memories
As the third largest county in West Virginia, Pocahontas County is filled with valleys, mountains and streams. Nestled among those valleys and mountains are dozens and dozens of communities and towns. Some are long forgotten, remembered only in passages in history books about the logging industry.
