Yellow school busses will begin their routes this coming week. Before exploring all the fun in the month ahead, a quick refresher on Pennsylvania's school bus stopping law.

When you meet or overtake a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm activated, you MUST STOP. When approaching a school bus with flashing amber lights, SLOW DOWN and be PREPARED TO STOP.

When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm activated, you MUST STOP. You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus. You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving. DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety. Drivers can do their part to make this a safe school year for all students.

Refresher complete, school started, but there is still no shortage of events to fill up the social calendar. A chance to ease on into the fall season doing lots of good for many organizations. On Sept. 5, support Monroe County Historical Association's 9th Annual “Raise Your Glass & Support the Past” wine pairing dinner and auction fundraiser, being held at Skytop Lodge. Perhaps stargazing is a favorite. On Saturday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. head up to Mountain View Park in Tannersville for Stargazing in the Park. Before heading out to stargaze, pick up your takeout chicken BBQ from Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder, Saylorsburg, serving from 4 to 7 p.m.

As we remember the heroes of Sept. 11, there is a chance to do good that day by joining the Pocono Mountains United Way as part of their Day of Caring. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. at Barley Creek Brewing Company, Tannnersville, with volunteer projects starting at 9 a.m. To register and look at this year’s volunteer opportunities, visit www.VolunteerMonroe.org .

Enjoy music and a Battle of the Bands, then head up to Poconos Park in Bushkill where Zakk Wylde and BERZERKUS are making the last call for bands to participate on Sept. 14. The search is on for bands from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and beyond. Fans and a panel of judges will determine which two bands (one cover/tribute and one original) will play live on stage alongside the likes of Cody Jings, Black Label Society, and a list of others. The judges panel includes Grammy-nominated mixer, engineer and producer Dan Malsch; retired rock star turned entrepreneur Blasko; music industry executive and entrepreneur John Oakes; from SiriusXM, Mark Strigl; vice president of Imagen Records, Morgan Rose; and American Musical Supply executive Greg Goldberg. For more information, visit www.PoconosPark.com .

Sept. 15, support 1000 Pink Lights Walk at their 7th Annual Tricky Tray & Spaghetti Dinner at The Big A Grillehouse (Fox Run Lane, East Stroudsburg). For more information, call or text Betty Ann Ricci, 973-429-9007.

On Sept. 19 from 8 to 10 a.m. a panel discussion will be held at Northampton Community College, Pocono Campus, Keystone Hall (202 A-B) addressing the childcare crisis in Carbon & Monroe Counties. Attendance is free.

On Sept. 21, visit Pocono Township’s Food Truck Festival (runs from Sept. 20 to 22). Music begins at 7 p.m. in Tannersville, and earlier in the day catch Harvest Fest beginning at 10 a.m. in Mount Pocono.
