    Restaurant inspections from Monroe County, Aug. 12-25

    These establishments in Monroe County were inspected between Aug. 12 and 25, according to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture records .

    The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture provides this disclosure: "Please remember that any inspection is a 'snapshot' of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment."

    Out of compliance

    Super Winner Chinese Restaurant: 2657 Route 940, Suite 112, Pocono Summit

    Inspected Aug. 12. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 10

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed various foods in the walk-in cooler stored open with no covering; food dispensing utensils in several bulk ingredient containers stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container; an uncovered bucket of pork stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required; pork thawing at room temperature is a large bowl, which is not an approved thawing method; soiled and dirty cardboard and paper menus used to line a table used for cutting cooked poultry (removed); cooked chicken and various vegetables stored in raw chicken boxes (removed and will be deep fried before use, and boxes were discarded); an in-use meat cleaver stored between the bain marie and a prep table, a dirty surface (cleaver removed for cleaning); a handwash sink filled with hoses and utensils; and an empty paper towel dispenser at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.

    Inspected Aug. 13. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 14

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed an open employee's beverage container on kitchen prep table; food employees not wearing proper hair restraints; raw beef stored above ready-to-eat foods and raw chicken stored above raw fish in the walk-in cooler; ice cream scoopers in the Callahan's kitchen stored in a container of water not maintained at 135 degrees; reduced oxygen packaged tuna filets thawed without being re-introduced to oxygen before thawing; a reminder statement on the menu for foods that are or could be served raw or undercooked to the consumer that did not clearly disclose which foods the reminder statement applied to; chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing kitchen dishwasher was 0 ppm, not 50-100 ppm as required (dishwasher was primed and obtained a level of 50ppm); a buildup of old food and old food residue on the blade of the manual can opener and old food and old food residue on the blade and frame of the deli meat slicer; no soap or paper towels at the handwash sink at the outside grill area, which did not have water at a temperature of at least 85 degrees; two light shields/covers with standing water on the inside; empty paper towel dispensers at handwash sinks in the bar and kitchen areas; no sign or poster at the handwash sink in the restroom to remind food employees to wash their hands; and grease dripping on the Ansul system piping and shelf above the cooktop in the kitchen cookline area.

    Congregation Ohr Menachem: 180 Glenmere Road, Canadensis

    Inspected Aug. 13. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 14

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed 18 cases of half-gallon Minute Maid juice requiring refrigeration maintained at room temperature and spoiled cucumbers in the walk-in cooler (juice and cucumbers disposed of); various prepared foods in the walk-in cooler stored open with no covering; food dispensing utensils in bulk flour and prepared foods stored in the food and not with handles above the top of the food and the containers; numerous refrigerated ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours not being date marked; manual warewashing equipment (three-bay sink) observed with a buildup of filth and food residue; manual can opener blade and Robot Coupe internal surfaces with a buildup of old food and old food residue; the handwash sink in the kitchen bathroom did not have water at a temperature of at least 85 degrees; the wall covering behind the meat side spice rack was unfinished and chipping/peeling paint, causing the potential for contamination of food products; lights were not shielded or shatterproof over the kitchen warewash area; 50 to 100 fruit flies in and around the three-compartment sink in the kitchen and a case of bananas near the walk-in cooler; dead insects not removed from light fixture covers in the kitchen cook line area; a buildup of grease and dirt on the exhaust vent in warewash area, cracked and broken floor drains, a buildup of old food in the floor drains in the kitchen area and walk-in cooler fan guards with a buildup of dust and dirt; and the kitchen bathroom toilet was clogged and not flushing.

    Tropical Smoothie Café: 361 Charles Way, Suite 105, Stroudsburg

    Inspected Aug. 14. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 3

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed there was not a chemical sanitizer system in place for the three-compartment sink; and the handwash sink in the food prep area did not have water at a temperature of at least 85 degrees.

    Skytop Lodge Tap Room and Library Lounge: 1 Skytop Drive, Skytop

    Inspected Aug. 22. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 9

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed a reminder statement on the menu for foods that are or could be served raw or undercooked to the consumer that did not clearly disclose which foods the reminder statement applied to; chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required; a buildup of old food residue in the inside of caps on soda gun and soda gun holder and a pink mold-like substance on the interior surfaces and separator plate of the ice machine; bar area surfaces and sinks with a buildup of old food residue; no soap at the handwash sink in the Library Bar area; an empty paper towel dispenser at the handwash sink in the Library Bar area; no sign or poster at the handwash sink in the Library Bar area to remind food employees to wash their hands; approximately 15-20 small flying insects in and around the bar sink drains and soda gun dispenser in the Library Bar and 20-25 in tap room bar service area.

    Inspector observed beef held at 54 degrees rather than 41 or below as required (voluntarily discarded).

    Inspector observed chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required; clean food equipment and/or utensils stored wet in a manner that did not allow for draining and/or air drying; and cardboard being used as a floor covering.

    Inspected Aug. 16. Jurisdiction: Stroudsburg Borough. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed the handwash sink behind the front counter area was blocked by boxes and not accessible for employee use.

    Inspector observed food employees not wearing proper hair restraints (immediately corrected).

    Inspector observed litter and debris on the walk-in cooler floor.
