POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Poland Library will be closed on Monday as the building undergoes geotechnical testing.

This comes after concerns surfaced about some movement detected on the south side of the building.

Officials opted to have a structural evaluation performed, which showed a portion of the building near the bookstore was rising.

Engineers will conduct a subsurface exploration, closing the library for the day.

“Clearly, there is something happening in the geology underneath the floor that’s pushing it up. So we have a local Boardman company that is going to come in, drill some holes in the floor and take some core samples, and do that testing so we can determine what the issue is and how to remediate it,” said Aimee Fifarek, executive director of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.

Officials stress the structural integrity of the building has not been compromised and is safe for continued use.

The closure is only for one day and the library will reopen on Tuesday, July 23.
