Polk County, FL - A Polk County deputy was arrested for DUI after arriving at work and exhibiting signs of intoxication.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, upon detecting the smell of alcohol on 27-year-old Joseph Everett's breath, his supervisor initiated a sobriety test, which confirmed that Everett was indeed impaired.

The deputy confessed to consuming approximately three coffee mugs of whiskey the night before.

Sheriff Grady Judd expressed his disappointment, stating, "Anytime someone chooses to drive under the influence of alcohol, it shows a lack of good judgment. If you lack the proper judgment when it comes to drinking and driving, you have no business working in law enforcement. We hold our deputies to a higher standard than the community, and he failed to meet that standard."

Following his arrest, Everett, who had been with the sheriff's office for two years, chose to resign.

He now faces charges related to driving under the influence.
