The National Weather Service hasn’t put out any particular watches or warnings at the moment, but based on radar shots of pop-up thunderstorms moving into the area of Polk and surrounding counties, it could get a spicy for some areas.

The NWS Peachtree City office put chances of rain at 50% on the day – but that might be underestimating based on current conditions. A line of storms could begin to impact northwest Polk near Cave Spring from eastern Cherokee County, Alabama in the coming hour as it continues to drag across southern Floyd County and develop further toward Bartow County.

A smaller scattered cell is also moving toward southwest Polk County and the Esom Hill area. Additional precipitation is developing over Polk County as well, but likely hasn’t begun to fall as rain based on current radar provided by the NWS.

Additional pockets of thunderstorms could continue to develop in eastern Alabama and move into west Georgia – impacting Polk and Haralson Counties – later this evening.

Forecasts call for rain chances to increase ahead of the 11 p.m. hour, but diminish after.

Tuesday’s weather calls for the likelihood of rain again – 50 to 60% chances heading into the afternoon hours – but expect high temps once again as the thermometer officially reaches 95, but feels upward of 105 with a heat index.

Rain chances increase through the rest of the week and is expected before the weekend as the thermometer begins to go down into the low 90s, and hit only 85 by Friday. Look for the likelihood of rain and some relief from hot temps for the weekend forecast.
