Maxwell Amenson tragically killed in Polk County head-on accident
POLK, IA, (July 07, 2024) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office has identified the boy who died in a head-on crash on Sunday as 10-year-old Maxwell Harry Amenson of Polk City. The accident happened at around 1:30 p.m. on N.W. Fisher Lane near the entrance to Cottonwood Recreation Area. There were two people in each of the vehicles involved in the crash.

A public health collaboration in central Iowa is trying to close health disparities among Latinos seeking care for cognitive health. Jimmy Reyes, a professor at the University of Northern Iowa Department of Nursing and Public Health, says Latinos statistically have more uncontrolled chronic health conditions. Reyes says they also tend to have less access to health care and they tend to be more skeptical of it. This extends to cognitive conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.

Community State Bank, which plans on building a new headquarters in Ankeny, has acquired 5.5 acres along Northeast 38th Street, Polk County real estate records show. The bank paid Threshold Development LLC $4.25 million for the property at 2615 N.E. 38th St., according to records. The property, which had been farmland, is east of Interstate Highway 35, near Costco.
