Payments can be made online, by U.S. Postal mail or placed in the drop box. The Polk County Treasurer’s Office will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the online payment system for vehicle registration and fees as well as property tax payments.

Polk County not responsible for actions of guard who sexually abused inmate, judge rules
A former prisoner's claims against Polk County over sexual misconduct by a corrections officer have been dismissed. Justin Mowery sued the county over the actions of Brianna Miller, a former Polk County Jail officer. While incarcerated from January to March of 2022, Mowery said Miller forcibly kissed and touched him while he was working in the jail kitchens.

The Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 33, has acquired property adjacent to its headquarters along Bell Avenue in Des Moines, Polk County real estate records show. The local acquired the property at 2403 Bell Ave. for $1.85 million, records show. The nearly 2-acre parcel includes a one-story, 37,970-square-foot building constructed in 2006. The local has used the building for various activities including for training.
Polk County awards grant funding to Sam Wise Youth Sports Complex
The city of Altoona can finalize phase three of four in a multi-year effort to update the fields and facilities at the Sam Wise Youth Sports Complex with $56,000 in grant funding approved by the Polk County Board of Supervisors on June 18. Phase three involves renovating two softball fields used by the Greater Altoona Girls Softball Association, and two baseball fields used by Southeast Polk Little League. According to a news release, the grant funds will be used toward replacing fencing and concrete pads, installing new roofs for dugouts, and improving drainage on the fields. Funds could also be reallocated into projects at one of Altoona’s other parks, the news release said.
