Polk County receives Presidential Declaration for FEMA Individual Assistance Program
The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Livingston Municipal Library located at 707 N. Tyler Ave. reopened Monday afternoon just in time. Polk County has received a Presidential Declaration for FEMA Individual Assistance. The disaster recovery center will remain open and available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
Business Bitez Expo
“Global Feast” is the theme of this year’s Business Bitez Expo hosted by the Livingston- Polk County Chamber of Commerce from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 23 at the Polk County Commerce Center and everyone is invited. Each vendor is asked to bring a bite size appetizer, main course or dessert from a country of their choice, along with information and goodies to hand out to attendees. Attendees will receive a plate, silverware, bag and a passport. The passport consists of the names of vendors and those vendors will stamp your passport. Get all of the vendors’ stamps and be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a trip voucher valued at $1,000. There will be door prizes, food and information and this will be a time to get to know what is available in the community. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
Disaster unemployment assistance available in 15 counties impacted by Hurricane Beryl
AUSTIN –The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is now accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) as a result of severe weather due to Hurricane Beryl. Under the Presidential Disaster Declaration (DR-4798-TX) dated July 9, 2024, workers and self-employed individuals in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton Counties who have been unable to work due to damage sustained from Hurricane Beryl may be eligible for DUA benefits.
