BACK TO CLASS: PSD welcomes students back to campus

The first day of school is a time-honored tradition for students of all ages heading back to campuses for many months of learning as the grow and excel. Parents mark time by when Johnny or Jane head off to a new grade and a new year, marking the occasion with a new outfit and a photo before the bus arrives.

It was no different in 2024 as students arrived back at Polk School District campuses to start the 2024-25 Academic Year.

Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas said that the start to the academic year this morning has been one of the best yet. She credited some of the positive beginning to the new year to several additional days of pre-planning provided to staff to open the 2024-25 calendar.

“Everyone has been so supportive around the community to our students and staff as we get this new year underway,” Thomas said. “I’m confident that this will be one of our most successful years yet in the district for all our students and staff!”

The academic calendar began today for students, but started last week for educators who prepped for students return since the end of July. Open House events were held on Monday for students returning from summer break to meet their teachers and find their classrooms.

PSD boasts more than 7,000 enrolled in the 11 campuses across the district starting off this year.
