Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, is one of the most beautiful destinations we've ever been to. Although Aulani is owned and run by Disney, this resort isn't just for kids! With beautiful views, excellent food and so much to do right on property, we think Aulani is a great resort for an adults-only trip.

When planning where you might want to stay while visiting Oahu, Aulani may not be the first place you think of if you're an adult traveling without any children. But Aulani is a great destination for an adults-only trip! From great food and drinks to a beautiful spa, it really is a little piece of paradise!

Why is Disney's Aulani Good for Adults?

Aulani is breathtaking. Not only is it located on a serene lagoon, but the resort itself has been designed with the most beautiful details. And while it does boast Disney details and characters, it's not the main focus or overly in your face. And truthfully, if you're not about that Disney life, most of the Disney things are pretty easy to avoid. Aulani offers great service, great food, great drinks, and plenty of adult-only fun.

We think it's perfect for a girl's trip, your honeymoon, anniversary, or any time you want to get away with just the grown-ups. You won’t find over-the-top Disney-theming at Aulani. There are subtle Disney touches, but the resort tells the story of Hawaiian culture and it is evident that a lot of thought went into every inch of the resort. Besides being beautiful, the resort exceeds Disney’s high standards of service and cleanliness.

Like any resort, your room is the ultimate escape. Spacious rooms, with super comfy beds, cannot be beat when you're facing a 6 hour time difference. And even though our room didn't have any special kind of view, having a balcony to drink coffee on in the morning was pure magic. We stayed in a traditional room; but if you're able to snag one of the Villas through DVC or DVC rental, you get even more room and even a little kitchenette. Whether you plan to spend some time in your room or more time in the resort, having such a lovely place to come "home" to in the evening is so great! The rooms aren't overly Disney-themed, and really just have a few hidden details here and there.

Pools for Adults at Disney Aulani

Just like on Disney Cruises, Aulani has special areas just for adults. Ka Maka Grotto is an infinity-edge pool that overlooks Ko Olina beach. This pool isn't really secluded as it is quite close to the other pool areas, but it's such a gorgeous spot I don't think you'll really notice! There are sparkling lights after dark that make this pool super romantic. And the setting itself is dreamy!

Wailana Pool is a secluded adults-only pool with a pool bar, perfect for relaxing with a drink in hand. There are also 4 whirlpool spas at Aulani as well. Two of these whirlpools offer views of the ocean and the whirlpool spa at ‘Alohi Point is an adult-only 2 level oceanfront whirlpool that is just stunning. As an adult on vacation, it is great to have the option for a quiet, relaxing time in the adult-only areas.

Aside from the adult-only areas, there are other pool areas that are great for adults and kids alike. Waikolohe Pool is the largest pool at Aulani with zero entry and a tunnel body slide. And Waikolohe Stream offers two tubing slides and a lazy river along a tropical landscape. You can mix it up with a little fun on the water slides or relax in the lazy river.

Laniwai Spa

Laniwai Spa is a wonderful space to unwind, relax and get pampered. There are so many different spa therapies and options; there is truly something there for everyone.

Included in any full-service spa treatment is Laniwai’s Outdoor Therapy Garden: Kula Wai. In this Outdoor Therapy Garden, you can experience vitality baths, soaking pools, 6 different waterfall rain showers, and even make your own complimentary Hawaiian body scrub. There are so many areas to relax in the Outdoor Therapy Garden; it's the perfect place to start or end your spa experience.

There is everything from facials to nail and hair services, massages, and more. Laniwai also has a fitness center and wellness classes like yoga on the beach to start your day or a paddleboard fitness class midday.

Food and Drinks at Disney Aulani for Adults

Disney is known for good food and Aulani is no exception to that! Whether you're traveling on a girls' trip or on your honeymoon, Aulani has a variety of food and drinks sure to tempt your tastebuds.

Makahiki

Makahiki offers breakfast & dinner, also offers character dining on select days. We tried the breakfast buffet and everything was delicious. Who knew red velvet waffles and coconut syrup would be so good?! Aulani is now offering breakfast as a 3-course offering and you can find the breakfast menu for Makahiki here. You can also have dinner at Makahiki. You don't need a reservation but we always recommend making one if you can.

Ama Ama Signature Dining at Aulani

‘Ama ‘Ama is Aulani's signature restaurant. Dinner at Ama Ama is a great way to relax at the end of the day with beautiful sunset views and a delicious meal. With ocean views and relaxing live music, Ama Ama is a great spot for a romantic dinner or elegant meal with friends. It's a little pricey but we think between the food and the atmosphere it's definitely worth it.

Olelo Room

Aulani also has a variety of quick-serve options as well as places to grab your morning coffee or before dinner cocktail. Some of these spots are adults-only, so if you're looking for an escape, be sure to check them out. The Olelo Room is a lounge with cocktails, appetizers, and live music at times. This isn't specifically for adults only, but I never saw any children in there during our stay because it is technically a bar.

Wailana Pool Bar

Wailana Pool Bar is an adults-only area and offers coffee in the morning and cocktails and lunch in the afternoon. If you love a good morning latte, this is a great place to grab one on your way to the lagoon; but be aware that the line is often long and the prices are a little high. And Off the Hook is a poolside lounge with cocktails, lunch, and dinner.

Quick Service Food Stops

You can also grab a quick bite at other places around the resort-like Mama’s Snack Shop, Papalua Shaved Ice, Little ‘Opihi’s Beachside Kiosk, and Ulu Café. And if venturing off the resort is a little more your thing, there are great places right across the street! We especially loved Island Vintage Coffee for morning coffee and smoothie bowls. And Monkeypod has great happy hour specials and a super fun atmosphere. So if you need to get away from the resort for a short time, you have plenty of options just across the street!

Enjoy Oahu

Aulani is located on the Island of Oahu and there is so much to do there! You can book many excursions through Aulani that includes transportation, or you can even rent a car for a day at the resort if you haven’t rented one already. We spent half of our time at Aulani and half of our time on the North Shore of Oahu. And only had a car when we explored the island. We were able to rent directly from the resort; which is a great option if you don't want to pay for your vehicle to just sit in the parking garage when you're not using it.

But if you don't plan to venture out from the resort or don't want to rent a car, Aulani can help you get where you want to go. One thing to keep in mind if you're traveling on an adult vacation to Aulani though is its location. Aulani is located on the western side of the island. There isn't much to do in terms of nightlife on the west side of Oahu; so if you are someone that enjoys that on vacation, we definitely recommend having a car or planning to Uber. Or you can do what we did, which included a split stay between Aulani and the north shore. While there is plenty to do at the resort, this is a personal preference that really depends on what you like to do on vacation.

Aulani is a breathtaking destination and there is so much to do for adults! It truly is a magical place. While it isn’t overwhelmingly Disney-themed, the greatest aspects of Disney Destinations are evident. The attention to detail and amazing customer service are all part of the Disney experience. And we know you'll find that at Aulani!
