Structures, Livestock Lost as Wildfire in South-Central Idaho Nears 200,000 Acres
The wildfire burning north of Emmett has slowed its growth rate but is still expanding. The Paddock fire has burned more than 187,000 acres and was 31% contained as of Tuesday morning. The blaze was ignited by lightning on Monday, Aug. 5, and is expected to grow “as crews continue to monitor and improve established perimeters.”

Built to Spill began their tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of There’s Nothing Wrong With Love in their hometown of Boise on Friday night. While many of the album’s songs are staples in the band’s setlist — “Big Dipper,” “Car,” “Twin Falls,” “Distopian Dream Girl” — a few of them were dusted off, including “Israel’s Song” which had never been played live. “Fling” hadn’t been played since 1997, “Cleo” hadn’t been played since 2003, and “The Source” hadn’t been played live since 2013.

A petition is circulating in northern Bingham County to see if the residents in the Firth area want ambulance service from Shelley instead of the more distant Blackfoot. To do so, the county commissioners will need to approve expanding the county’s ambulance district south to 350 North. Currently, the Shelley-Firth Ambulance District stops at 800 N.
