Eight-year-old Poppy George stood out amongst older folks, placing second in the Best of Whitefish Best Athlete category. George said her mantra is, “I believe in myself. I believe in my team. I believe in God.” George has been a martial arts student at SBG Gym for three years and has a gray/black belt. She also plays soccer with Glacier Surf and her soccer team brought home the gold in their latest home competition, the 3 Blind Refs tournament at the KidSport Complex in Kalispell. The annual tournament is the largest in Montana with over 180 teams coming in from Montana, Idaho, Washington and Canada. Aided by her teammates’ awesome performances, George helped her team score two goals for the win. Among George’s accolades is Mutton Busting Champion, as she competed at the Montana Longhorn Company's Mutton Busting Championship. Local author shares story of hope in new children’s book
Michelle Weltz and her family were playing fetch with their black lab, Sky, having a fun Labor Day at the lake in 2014. When Sky brought back the ball covered in blood, they took her to the vet. Beach Boys set to perform next month at Kalispell's Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo
KALISPELL, Mont. - The Northwest Montana Fair announced Tuesday that the famous Beach Boys will perform at the fair on August 13. "The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the group had over 80 songs chart worldwide," a release from the fair states.

Billings Flying Service Wins First-Ever Type 1 Exclusive Use Contract with Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation
BILLINGS, MONTANA (July 2, 2024): Montana-based Billings Flying Service (BFS) is pleased to announce it won Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s first exclusive use type 1 helicopter firefighting contract. BFS is providing a tanked CH-47 Chinook helicopter with high-volume precision water drop capability for the summer fire season contract, which started July 1. The aircraft will be based in Montana, however, could be mobilized to surrounding states under a cooperative agreement in place between the US Forest Service and State of Montana.

Supreme Court overturns FERC solar approval after Chevron’s demise
A Montana solar project may be one of the first casualties of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Chevron doctrine. In a short order Tuesday, the justices granted a request to reverse a lower court ruling affirming the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of the Broadview solar array and battery storage facility in Billings, Montana. The order was one of nine directing federal courts to reconsider decisions on everything from Internal Revenue Service audits to the removal of officials from federal offices, based on Friday’s Chevron ruling.
