HRA Welcomes Donation from New Britain Youth Leads for Local Food Center
Youth leaders from New Britain Youth Leads donated money they had fundraised to HRA of New Britain’s New Britain Food Resource Center. The donation of $225 was presented by Youth Leads to HRA at the Food Resource Center’s Farmington Avenue location, HRA said, “to recognize the Food Resource Center’s efforts to provide food to thousands of New Britain residents each year who otherwise cannot access enough for their families.” The donation was presented to HRA on a ceremonial “big check.”

A theatrical performance will be presented in the historic State Senate Chambers in the Massachusetts State House on Beacon Hill in Boston. East-West rail project picks up $123 million in funding
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has officially allocated $123 million for expanded passenger rail service between the western part of the state and Boston. The funding comes from the federal government and is part of Massachusetts Department of Transportation's latest capital improvement plan. The money will help cover several critical elements to the project, including track improvements between Springfield and Worcester. Other pieces are design work for a new station in Palmer, initial steps towards reconfiguring rails in Springfield to handle more traffic, increasing capacity in Pittsfield and planning to connect Albany, N.Y. and Boston with more rail service.

EGSD Hires New Assistant Superintendent
Sarah D. Courtemanche, 37, is stepping into the position of East Greenwich School District assistant superintendent, previously held by Michael Podraza. Podraza was named superintendent of the South Kingstown school district. Courtemanche was assistant principal at Smithfield High School and chief of teaching and learning for Pawtucket schools before that. She lives in Greene.
ValleyBike expected to reopen bike sharing program at the end of the summer
The regional bicycle share program should resume by the end of the summer, several months later than initially planned. The ValleyBike Share program, which operated in eight communities across Western Massachusetts, has been dormant for two years after the company that had been running it went bankrupt, said Carolyn Misch, director of planning and sustainability in Northampton.
