Georgian Bay Giants Claim Dunkirk Fastpitch Softball Title
The Georgian Bay Giants emerged as the champions of the City of Dunkirk's 49th Annual First Ward Falcon Club Tournament that was held July 19-21. The Giants defeated the Niagara Snappers 3-1 in the title game, ending the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record while allowing just three runs. Andres Gonzo was the winning pitcher in the title game, while Aiden Yarde's 7-for-10 performance with three home runs on the second day of the tournament helped him win round robin MVP honors. Third place went to Dunkirk Fastpitch and Weavers of Rochester. Dunkirk Lakeside also made playoffs on the final day.

Serious Injury Reported in Motorboat Incident on Chautauqua Lake
One person was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries after getting struck by a motorboat while in the south basin of Chautauqua Lake on Saturday. The incident was called in shortly after 1:45 PM, with multiple agencies responding to the scene. According to the Lakewood Fire Department, dispatchers reported that the victim was removed from the water and was en route via private boat to Lakewood Beach with serious bleeding. On arrival, the victim was given immediate aid, then was removed from the boat and transported by STAT MedEvac. Assisting agencies included Lakewood-Busti Police, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office WET Team and Navigation Unit, County Emergency Services and EMS, Celoron Fire and Bemus Point Fire.
Flames Ravage Vacant House on Jamestown's South Side
Flames extensively damaged the front porch to the second-floor part of the front of a vacant house on Jamestown's south side early Saturday. City fire crews were called to 24 Broadhead Avenue at about 12:15 AM and found the porch fully engulfed in flames, with fire extending above the porch roof. No one was found inside the building at the time, and no interior fire was found. Crews were at the scene until shortly before 2:00 AM. No one was hurt, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. No services were connected to the home, which is currently owned by the Chautauqua County Land Bank.
Ross Cancels Performance at Lucille Ball Comedy Festival
One of the three headlining performers at next week's Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in Jamestown will not be there. The National Comedy Center announced Friday afternoon on Twitter that "Roastmaster General" Jeffrey Ross had to cancel his performance that was scheduled for Friday, August 2nd. No reason was given for that decision. All buyers who purchased tickets for that show will receive a refund.

Lancaster Woman Arrested for DWI in Hanover
(WNY News Now) – Hanover, NY – A Lancaster woman faces multiple charges after traffic stop. On July 26, 2024, at approximately 11:44 PM, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Alleghany Road in the Town of Hanover. The driver, identified as Melanie A. Trespass Arrest in Jamestown Uncovers Drug Possession
(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – Officers apprehended two suspects in a condemned residence on the south side of Jamestown, leading to drug possession charges. On July 26, 2024, at approximately 7:19 PM, Jamestown police officers responded to a trespass report on the south side of the city. Upon arrival, they found Bryanne Childers, 36, and Michael Miller, 38, in a condemned residence. Both individuals were promptly taken into custody for criminal trespass in the third degree.
Federal Jury Convicts Jamestown Man of Multiple Drug Charges
(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that a Jamestown, NY, man has been convicted by a federal jury on multiple serious drug charges.
