Ponchatoula man, 20, arrested for attempted murder

PONCHATOULA, La. ( WGNO ) — A Ponchatoula man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a person three times in the evening hours of Saturday, July 13.

According to the Ponchatoula Police Department, officers were dispatched to TJ’s Tobacco Store on Veterans Avenue around 10 p.m. regarding reports of shots being fired.

Once they arrived, officers found one victim lying in the parking lot who appeared to have been shot three times. Officers provided medical aid until the fire department and emergency medical services arrived. The victim was later transported to North Oaks Hospital for treatment.

After processing the scene and reviewing available video footage, detectives identified 20-year-old Clyde Gaten III as the alleged shooter and obtained an arrest warrant.

Gaten has been booked into Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one charge of attempted second degree murder.
