Crews Battling new 800 Acre Lightning-Caused Wildfire in Nez Perce County
JULIAETTA - Firefighters are battling a new lightning-caused fire in Nez Perce County, located about 5 miles southwest of Juliaetta and just south of the Latah County line. The fire was sparked at around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Nez Perce Tribe Fire Management Officer Fire Jeff Handel, at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, the fire size was estimated at about 800 acres in size and no level of containment had been achieved.

Canyon County Fair gets going in Caldwell

Rexburg police try to identify vehicle involved in hit-and-run that hurt teenager
REXBURG — Police are trying to identify a driver they believe is involved in a hit-and-run incident that hurt a teen on a bicycle. The Rexburg Police Department is asking for the community’s help after posting a picture of a white Acura TLX. The post said it’s possibly a 2013 or 2014 model. The photo above is the actual vehicle involved, obtained by video surveillance, police said.

New mocktail bar brings active night life to downtown Rexburg
REXBURG – Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name … or at least the type of environment you enjoy hanging out in. The latter is the focus of a new mocktail bar at 32 College Avenue in Rexburg called Fizz Rizz. The non-alcoholic bar opened July 4 and offers daiquiris, pina coladas, margaritas, flavored sodas and more. It also has pool tables and arcade games. BLACKFOOT — A 40-year-old local man was recently sentenced to serve up to 14 years in prison for leading officers on a high-speed chase in February while in a stolen car with a juvenile still inside the vehicle. Coroner IDs Meridian man who died in house fire
The man who died in a house fire last week has been publicly identified. Norman Duncan, 84, was pronounced dead on Saturday morning following a Friday evening house fire on West Vaquero Lane in Meridian, the Ada County Coroner’s Office announced Thursday. The Meridian Fire Department responded to the fire at around 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, and Duncan died at the scene, as previously reported. Twelve units responded to the fire and it took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish. Duncan’s cause and manner of death are pending, the coroner’s office said.
