New farm-to-table app has roots in Idaho, connecting local producers and consumers
IDAHO, USA — Although "Reko Rings" aren't a new thing in the state of Idaho, local producers continue to find ways to improve them. Reko is a Swedish term used for "fair consumption." Reko Rings first started popping up in Finland around 2013 as a concept to connect local producers and customers through Facebook Groups. Customers would join a group with local farmers and comment on which items they would like to purchase and pick up each week.
Idaho State Police Adds Nine Ford Mustang Dark Horses to its Fleet
In an effort to update its vehicles for the modern age, Idaho State Police has added nine Ford Mustang Dark Horse's to its fleet, along with upgrades across the department. “We have six districts and each district is running one of the (Mustang Dark Horse) patrol cars,” Lt. Todd Orr said. “We use it for a lot of different things. We use it for parades. It's a full-time patrol vehicle assigned to one of our troopers. It's a fun car. It's a pretty car. Obviously, those kinds of vehicles help a lot with public interaction. When we go out, we stop places and talk to people. People just want to come up and they want to talk about the cars, but when they do that, it really opens up that dialogue between law enforcement the public, and that's really helpful.”
After foodborne illness outbreak in Idaho, we shouldn’t put raw milk regulations out to pasture
I farm, homeschool, garden, bake bread, raise chickens, and make my own yogurt. It seems I’m following the fad of the homesteading hobbies. However, I’m not fully converted. I balk at the principle of drinking raw milk. I have been known to give lectures to friends and random strangers asking me if my family drinks […]

This viral photo of a driving range ravaged by KFT tour pros has a happy ending
Matt Gourlay, the superintendent at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho, recently posted a photo on social media of his course’s range after it had played host to a Korn Ferry Tour tournament. The image went viral thanks to range’s battered state; instead of an inviting layer of crisp green turf, the ground was overrun with more divots than grass.
ASUI kicks off the new school year
ASUI hosted their first official meeting of the semester this Wednesday and with it, they presented new and exciting ideas. Brandon Brackett, Director of Student Involvement at the university, brought forth the idea of “Joe’s Inferno,” a project much akin to “Hot Ones.” For those who may not know, “Hot Ones” is an interview style where the interviewer asks the interviewee questions while they both eat progressively spicier hot sauce. “Joe’s Inferno” plans to interview student groups, clubs and departments on campus as an effort to bring awareness to them. Brackett said that they plan to film an episode with multiple ASUI representatives, including President Martha Smith herself.
New public charter school in Avimor opens its doors
The calendar didn’t read Dec. 24 or Dec. 31, but the hallways and classrooms of Idaho Novus Classical Academy had an aura not unlike a holiday eve on Tuesday. That’s because years of planning and work came to fruition Wednesday as about 378 students walked through the school’s doors for its first year of bringing education to students at the kindergarten through sixth-grade levels. “It’s an important day for a...
