United Way invests more than $1.7M to support local service programs
United Way of Northeast Mississippi has officially completed another grantmaking cycle. At its June meeting, the United Way Board of Directors voted to approve grants in support of 55 programs at 47 local nonprofit organizations across its 8-county service area, which includes Tishomingo, Itawamba, Union, Prentiss, Lee, Pontotoc, Monroe and Chickasaw counties.

Randolph man arrested for felony shoplifting
TUPELO — A Pontotoc County man has been arrested in connection with a felony shoplifting incident from last year. The Tupelo Police Department served a capias warrant on June 15 on Michael Scott Jones, 42, of Randolph. The arrest and secret indictment stemmed from a 2023 incident where Jones was accused of stealing more than $1,000 in merchandise from the West Main Walmart. Jones listed a ...

Children of all ages sat in the Pontotoc County Library recently and enjoyed an informative program from Milk Wallrath and Brett Hogan with Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation. The children were delighted to see Hulk the red-tailed hawk and Hazelnut the little Northern Saw-whet owl.
Bridge remains closed along old Highway 6 in Pontotoc County
FURRS, Miss. (WTVA) – There is a Pontotoc County bridge closure on old Highway 6 west of Tupelo, and it is causing a headache for locals. "Ever since the bridge opened by Steele's Dive, it has been chaotic,” said Sandra Shaw, who lives on Hester Lane in the Furrs community in Pontotoc County.
Supervisors approve new records system purchase
The Pontotoc county board is supervisors has approved for the purchase of a new county land records system due to termination of the old system carrier. “We have to get a new system,” said Deputy Clerk Angie Shettles. “The old one is outdated as far as hardware is concerned and the software is 20 years old and no longer maintainable.”
Site chosen for giant cross, special offering Sunday, June 30
We are just days away from the special offering Sunday to raise monies to build a giant cross for Pontotoc County. Spearheading the effort is former chancer court clerk Reggie Collums. “Now I am not saying the cross itself will save a soul, but Jesus does and the cross is a reminder of what He did. He gave all.”
