Jax Taylor is opening up about his mental health after spending time at an inpatient facility earlier this summer. The Vanderpump Rules alum, 45, took to Instagram on Monday, Sept. 2, to share that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

"A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself," The Valley star wrote on Instagram. "After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD."

He continued, "It's been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I've come home to my son with a new found sense of peace. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it."

The Bravo star concluded by thanking the people who have supported him through the challenging past couple of months, writing, "Your messages have helped me more than you know."

Taylor checked into a mental health inpatient facility in late July amid his separation from wife Brittany Cartwright , whom he wed in 2019. "Jax has always been candid about his mental health struggles, especially during the past few months on his podcast," a rep for the reality personality said in a statement at the time. "He has made the decision to seek in-patient treatment. This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. They ask for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more on this matter."

Taylor left treatment after 30 days, and soon after, Cartwright, 35, officially filed for divorce , citing irreconcilable differences. The former couple announced in February that they had separated, with Cartwright saying on their podcast, When Reality Hits , "I think that we will have to address some rumors - just a little bit. I'm not going to go too hard on this because, you know, some people do deserve to have their privacy." The Kentucky native continued, "But I will say - marriage is hard and people go through ups and downs all the time and it's completely normal. Sometimes people might need their space [and] sometimes they won't."

The duo shares 3-year-old son Cruz, and Cartwright has requested primary legal and physical custody of their child with visitation for Taylor. She also requested that neither she nor her estranged husband be allowed spousal support.
