Tell Me Lies is back with more twists, turns and toxicity than ever in Season 2 . As Lucy (Grace Van Patten) navigates the fallout from her destructive relationship with Stephen (Jackson White) in the sophomore season of the Hulu series premiering on Wednesday, she finds another love interest in newcomer Leo, played by Gossip Girl 's Thomas Doherty .

Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Doherty opened up to PopCulture.com about his charming new character, a junior at Baird who returns to campus after studying abroad for a year and finds himself immediately drawn to Lucy.

Doherty told PopCulture that Leo is "like a nice respite" for Lucy after her relationship with Stephen, but his entrance into this "very toxic kind of atmosphere of friendship groups and lovers and all the rest of it" isn't all easy. As Lucy struggles to trust the new man in her life, Doherty's character is confused by her "baggage" from being with Stephen.

"He is kind of infatuated by this girl, but there's so much baggage and so much tension," Doherty explained. "[Leo's] definitely welcoming in and introducing a lot of trauma and problems into his own life, and I think he's at a different spot mentally and emotionally than a lot of other people with different desires."

Doherty hints that "no one's safe" from Stephen's darkness, however, and teases that as the season progresses, viewers will see how Leo is impacted by his new peers.

Going through their own struggles in Season 2 are Evan (Branden Cook) and Wrigley (Spencer House), who are dealing with the fallout from last season. As Evan grapples with his secret hookup with Lucy, Cook told PopCulture you can see him coming face-to-face with "the repercussions of accepting that not everybody can be a good guy all the time."

Wrigley, meanwhile, has his "whole status" as a popular football star "pulled from out under him" after his injury. House admits that while "it's a bit of a spiral" seeing Wrigley figure out who he really is, "it's fun to see him confront himself and learn about himself" in the process.

Tell Me Lies returns Wednesday to Hulu.
