    PREPS: North Boone softball trounces Rockford Jefferson in double-digit victory

    POPLAR GROVE, Ill.—For the North Boone softball team, there’s just something about scoring into the double-digits.

    The Vikings recorded eight hits and took advantage of four errors to trounce visiting Jefferson 15-0 on Tuesday afternoon. North Boone has now scored 10 or more runs in three of its first four games of the season.

    Hayden Staver, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs, scored first on a wild pitch in the first. Senior Cami Carter launched a two-run double and Danielle Goodman added a one-run single for the 4-0 lead.

    The Vikings (3-1) added three runs off a series of errors by the NIC-10’s J-Hawks (2-1) in the third and a one-run double by Marlee Alderman and an RBI single from Staver sealed as part of a five-run fourth put the mercy rule into effect.

    Carter had two hits and three RBI while throwing four innings of one-hit ball. She struck out seven and walked two.

    • ROCKFORD LUTHERAN 5, SOUTH BELOIT 0: Some timely hits and strong pitching from sophomore Courtney Troutt propelled the Crusaders to a shutout over the visiting SoBos on Tuesday.

    A South Beloit error on a ground ball by Brooklyn Davis plated two runs in the second inning. Troutt, and Davis each scored on groundouts in the fourth and Addison Yowell added a one-run single in the fifth.

    Whitney Schnack was charged with five runs (three earned) on six hits in the complete game. She allowed three walks and struck out four. Troutt only allowed three hits and two walks in the 15-strikeout performance for Lutheran (1-4).

    Taniyah Crawford smacked a double for South Beloit (1-1).

    • BASEBALL: HONONEGAH 6, PRAIRIE RIDGE 6: The Indians avoided their first loss of the season by rallying for three runs in the seventh to draw with the hosting Wolves (2-1).

    Down 6-3 entering the final frame, Bryce Ewing drew a leadoff walk, Landen Seymour singled and Austin Dresser brought two home when he singled to right and the outfielder committed an error. Dresser then scored from second on a single by Drake Broege, but pinch-runner Justin Hodges was thrown out trying to score on a Nick Santis double. A fly ball and strikeout later and the game ended in a tie.

    Santis went 3-for-4 with a one-run single in the first for Hononegah (2-0-1), and he scored on a two-run blast by Cameron Nelson in the sixth. Dresser added three hits and two runs.

    Jakob DeLeo started and went three innings and allowed three unearned runs on three hits. The Indians used three relievers for an inning each with Ian Blaneknship striking out the side.

    • NORTH BOONE 17, JOHNSBURG 7: In a game that totaled 24 runs and 20 hits, the Vikings took advantage of five Skyhawks’ errors and drew nine walks to improve their record to 3-2.

    Owen Meredith smacked a three-run homer in the second and added a two-run single in the fifth as he went 3-for-4. Grady Condon added a three-run bomb in the fourth and Ben Neri contributed a solo homer in the third.

    RJ Wolski, Condon and Neri all had two hits. Condon allowed three earned runs in 1 2-3 innings on the mound while Meredith struck out four and allowed four runs (two earned) in 2 1-3 frames. JJ Ford closed out the final two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four.

    Johnsburg (0-3) had seven different hits from seven different batters.
