    PREP SOFTBALL: North Boone uses late comeback to keep winning streak alive

    OREGON, Ill. — The North Boone softball team upped its winning streak to seven straight games, a run where it has outscored its opponents 98-12, with another offensive onslaught on Thursday downing Oregon 15-6.

    The Vikings (10-2, 4-0 Big Northern Conference) trailed the Hawks (6-6, 2-2) 5-4 going into the sixth inning, when Marlee Alderman tied it up on an RBI single and Lauren Sefek put North Boone ahead for good when she brought Hayden Staver, who had walked, home on an error.

    The Vikings then exploded for a nine-run seventh inning. Avarie Torres, Sydney Goodman, Lauren Stefek and Olivia Johnson each hit RBI singles in the big frame while Cami Carter hit a two-run double.

    Carter got the win in the circle after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts.

    Goodman had three of North Boone’s 13 hits while Stefek, Johnson and Torres each added two.

    • BRODHEAD 20, CLINTON 0: The Cardinals stayed undefeated after hanging 16 runs on the hosting Cougars in the first inning for a three-inning win in Rock Valley Rock play on Thursday.

    The big opening frame was highlighted by Sophia Leitzen’s grand slam. Keegan Steinke added a two-run double, and the Cardinals put up four more in the second, where Ava Risum smacked a solo homer. Alecia Dahl added a two-run double to put Brodhead (5-0, 2-0) at 20 runs.

    Risum, Dahl, Jerrica Schwartz, Tatum Ceslock and Steinke all had three hits. Schwartz, Leitzen and Steinke all had five RBI. Clinton got a double from Karlee Morris as Clinton (0-3, 0-2) finished with two hits.

    Risum allowed just one hit and struck out six in two innings while Leitzen allowed a hit and struck out three in one frame.

    • PARKVIEW 17, RIO 7: Natalie Abey opened the floodgates with a three-run double in the first inning as the Vikings routed visiting Rio in Trailways-South action.

    Lillian McMahon, who finished with two runs batted in, added an RBI double in the first as visiting Parkview scored four in the second and six in the fifth to put the mercy rule into effect.

    Abey finished with five RBI while Jazmyn Wiedmer went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Parkview finished with 16 walk and three errors.

    Wiedmer allowed seven runs, but just two earned, on two hits and five walks. Kylie Stark pitched three hitless innings.

    • SOUTH BELOIT 9, HARVEST CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 4: The SoBos secured a season sweep of the Royal Lions, who they beat in a 19-10 slugfest on Tuesday, by smacking 11 hits and scoring five runs in the third.

    Whitney Schnack and Maddi Reifsteck each hit one-run singles and Macey Lineman and Jasmine Fago contributed one-run doubles in the key third frame.

    Fago had a team-high three hits for the visiting SoBos (4-3) while Schnack, who added a one-run single in the fifth, finished with two. Lineman and Annabelle Dascher each had two hits and an RBI.

    Schnack earned the win with her eight-hit, complete game performance. She allowed four runs (two earned) and struck out nine.

    HCA (1-4) committed three errors and walked eight batters in the loss.
