POPLAR GROVE, Ill. — Matt Self certainly came to the ballfield on Monday afternoon raring to go.

The North Boone senior went 4-for-4 from the plate with three RBI while earning the win from the mound after throwing five strong innings to help the Vikings beat Winnebago 11-1 in Big Northern action.

RBI singles from Quinn Danner, Gage Vermett and Self helped North Boone (21-8, 11-5) build a 4-0 lead in the first. And it was the work of run-scoring singles from Vermett and Self that helped the Vikings score six more in the third.

Self added two more singles to his four-hit day while RJ Wolski and Vermett each finished with two. The Indians (4-21, 1-14) committed three errors and were limited to just three singles as Self struck out seven and walked two while allowing the unearned run in the complete game.

    • FORRESTON/POLO 15, SOUTH BELOIT 1: The Cardinals put up eight runs in the fifth inning to put the game to an early end as it rolled to a big victory over the SoBos.

JT Sanders walked to start the bottom of the first for South Beloit (5-12) before stealing second and scoring on Richard Carlson’s single to right field.

But that was all the hosting SoBos could manage as Forreston/Polo racked up 11 total hits and took advantage of five errors. The Cardinals scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth.

Carlson finished 2-for-2 for South Beloit while taking the loss from the mound as he allowed nine runs (three earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts.

    • STOUGHTON 11, BRODHEAD/JUDA 1: The Vikings jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in the strong non-conference win in five innings over the Cardinals on Monday.

Brodhead/Juda (7-8) brought its lone run across in the fifth off David Masloske’s double play. Sam Searls had a double while Evan Senobe, Gabe Bockhop and Clayton Elliott added singles as the Cardinals finished with four hits.

But Stoughton (6-9) racked up nine hits and 10 walks while Casey Quam smacked a two-run homer in the third innings to help with the double-digit victory.

BADGER 13, BELOIT MEMORIAL 1: The Purple Knights’ Brenin Pearson smacked an RBI single in the fifth but it wasn’t enough to stop the Badgers from putting the mercy rule into effect with the big Southern Lakes Conference win.
