SOAR United Boosts Literacy in Vicksburg Youth
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Each morning, Bre, a camp mentor at SOAR United/Camp Discovery is greeted by the excited faces of the students she works with. Bre’s students are among those whose reading scores were on the decline in 2023 but attend SOAR United in the hopes of getting their literacy development back on track.
EMCC ALUMNUS DANIEL WADE TO LEAD MIGHTY LION BAND
July 18, 2024 — East Mississippi Community College has tapped Kemper County native Daniel Wade to fill the position of band director for the Mighty Lion Band. The hire represents a homecoming for Wade, who graduated from EMCC in 1999. As a student, he marched and played trombone for the Mighty Lion Band during athletic events and played saxophone during the band’s orchestra performances.
Key pitcher announces return to Ole Miss baseball for 2025 season
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Another vital member of the Ole Miss baseball pitching staff has announced that he will return to the Rebels for a fourth season. This after Pearl native and eventual Friday night start at the latter end of the 2024 season Riley Maddox announced that he would be staying in Oxford for 2025.

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - On Wednesday, the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce awarded grants to some small businesses in Biloxi to help them grow. Biloxi Mayor “FoFo” Gilich says, “These dollars that provided these small businesses are very important and they will enable them to take another step that would lead to more successful business and that’s what it’s about.”
Jackson Public Schools announces largest pay increase in district history
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson Public Schools Board of Trustees approved new salaries and pay rates for teachers and hourly paid staff. Teachers will receive an increase in their local supplements. Teachers with 0-20 years of service will receive $5,000. Teachers with 21-30 years of service will receive $5,250. Teachers with over 31 years of service will receive $5,500.
Assisted living facility site moves to Gluckstadt after withdrawing Livingston proposal
The Oaks, an assisted living facility initially intended for Livingston, will now begin construction in Gluckstadt following unanimous approval from the Board of Aldermen. Husband and wife duo Chad and Crystal Phillips are the developers behind The Oaks. Chad, a charge nurse and native of Madison, said he and Crystal, a real estate agent, wanted to contribute much-needed support for seniors and disabled individuals in Madison County.
