    Poquoson High School recognized for traffic crash prevention programs

    POQUOSON, Va. (WAVY) – Poquoson High School was awarded for their teen-related traffic crash and fatality prevention efforts.

    On Saturday, July 13 at the annual Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety (YOVASO) Awards Banquet, the school was one of 28 award winners recognized. The event took place at James Madison University (JMU).

    Since 2001, YOVASO has been a peer-to-peer education and prevention program for teen driver safety. The program by the Virginia State Police works with schools and youth groups across the state.

    The school received the Speed Prevention Award. According to YOVASO, the award is, “in recognition of a member club’s outstanding programs to prevent speed-related crashes among young drivers. Award may recognize one exceptional program or a body of work.”
