Con Edison crews are working to restore power in Port Chester that was suddenly shut off due to a blown underground transformer. Dozens of apartment units and businesses downtown are still without power amid the intense heat. At one point more than 500 customers were in the dark. Village officials said the utility crews restored most of the power overnight by rerouting its electrical feeds remotely. Village Manager Stuart Rabin called it a collaborative effort between Port Chester, the utilities and construction crews to avoid a much bigger issue on such a hot day. On Tuesday, crews were digging into Westchester Avenue to remove the old transformer and replace it with a new one. Police were monitoring the intersection because the traffic signals were still out. Still, many in that area are in the dark. Leslie Martinez who works at PortRush Coffee on King Street said it affected business. "We pretty much lost all our morning rush and some of our inventory due to the power outage and I'm not sure when we're going to be back up and running," Martinez said. Con Edison predicts power will be restored to everyone in the village by 1 p.m. "
