    Plane crashes during landing Friday at Erie-Ottawa airport

    PORT CLINTON - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a non-injury airplane crash that occurred Friday at a about 1:30 p.m. at the Erie-Ottawa International Airport, Portage Township, Ottawa County.

    Ernest Halter, 49, of Yorktown, Indiana, was operating a 1990 Mooney M20J. He began his decent onto runway 27 and the landing gear failed to lower, according to a news release from the patrol. The underside of the plane struck the runway before sliding to a stop.

    Halter suffered no injuries as a result of the crash, according to the release.

    The crash remains under investigation.

    The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by Erie- Ottawa International Airport staff and Federal Aviation Administration.
