Another 81 New York workers will be laid off this Fall when a Hudson Valley manufacturing plant is officially acquired by another company and moves out of state. It's a news story that seems all too familiar in the Hudson Valley. Since February, hundreds of Hudson Valley factory workers have been laid off in a series of announcements about the mergers, closings or downsizing of businesses operating in New York State.

Driving back from Vermont a week ago for a short trip, we stopped on the New York State Thruway to fill up and grab a coffee. As per usual on a Summer Sunday, the highway was crowded with traffic, mostly families trying to get back to Jersey to prepare for the coming work week. It was early so the crowds weren't too bad for us, but the lines at the other storefronts were starting to grow.

Thruway Authority warns of E-ZPass phishing scam
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A phishing scam recently caught the attention of the New York State Thruway Authority, which is asking people to protect their personal information. "E-ZPass or Tolls By Mail WILL NEVER send an email or contact you requesting sensitive personal information such as credit card number, social security, user names, passwords, etc.," the Thruway Authority recently said on social media.

Koren wins Congressman Pat Ryan’s Art Competition
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tabitha Koren, a rising senior at Spackenkill High School, has been named the winner of Congressman Pat Ryan’s Art Competition. Koren, of Poughkeepsie, was recently honored by Ryan at a ceremony in the Capitol. Koren won for her graphite and acrylic painting titled, “Monkey the Man.” As the NY-18 winner, Koren attended the Congressional Art Competition Awards Ceremony held Thursday, June 27th, at the U.S. Capitol Building. Koren’s artwork will be displayed at the Capitol for the next year.
Dutchess County Drug Task Force Carries Out Latest Raids in Poughkeepsie
Yesterday the Dutchess County Drug Task Force successfully carried out and executed their latest set of raids at multiple locations in the Poughkeepsie area. Like many events carried out by the Drug Task Force in past raids, law enforcement was successful in not only apprehending and taking multiple suspects into custody, but they also were able to confiscate a large amount of illegal narcotics.
