Fire levy lid lift on August primary election ballot
Ballots are due by 8 p.m. on Election Day, August 6. Langley, Wash. – The South Whidbey Fire/EMS Board of Fire Commissioners has placed a fire levy lid lift on the August 6, 2024, primary election ballot. The lid lift would fund additional firefighters to reduce response times and replace fire engines and apparatus that have aged out of service.

Garage sale fundraiser for Ukraine’s troops set for July 20-21
Sequim locals and visitors have a chance to help Ukrainian troops half a world away at a local fundraiser this week. Sequim resident Kate Orz her neighbors and supporters host a neighborhood/community garage sale set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21, at 284 Greywolf Road. Funds raised will be used to purchase warm winter clothes and more for her friends in a reconnaissance brigade in the Ukraine army, she said.
Town ponders beefing-up right-of-way rules
The Coupeville Town Council might look into upgrading the town code to address what Mayor Molly Hughes described as the “questionable” use of the public right-of-way. The town has codes to regulate the use of the right-of-way, and each violation is a Class 3 Civil Infraction punishable with fines up to $50. However, as emerged from the meeting and a memo from the mayor, these rules are not specific nor strict enough for police officers to enforce.

Jim Gift grew up in River Edge, New Jersey where he developed his love of the outdoors. He had a core group of friends who would go fishing and hunting together. Jim attended River Dell High School and was a star football player, serving as captain his Junior and Senior year. He earned a reputation in the neighborhood because of his running everywhere. It was his way of training for football. In more recent years he loved to watch college football on TV.
Milestone: Marin named to dean’s list at Maryland school
Alison Marin of Sequim was recently named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 term at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade-point average of at least 3.50 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the school.
